PACKAGING & THE ENVIRONMENT
Packaging remains a huge threat to the environment, with tonnes of waste packaging being disposed of every year. According to National Geographic, 40% of plastic produced is packaging, which is used just once and then discarded. If disposed of correctly most of this packaging gets sent to landfill while more single use plastic is produced to meet consumer demand - a vicious cycle! However, plastic is still reaching the ocean and affecting innocent sea life. Due to the tiny fragments of plastic in the ocean, all sea turtle species and 44% of seabird species have been found to have plastic in their system or around their bodies.
Beaux Equestrian has always been passionate about the environment. We try our absolute best to avoid contributing to the production of single use plastic, so we do not order in new, non-recyclable packaging! Instead we re-use ‘single use’ packaging as much as possible (often given to us by friends and family, or packaging that comes with supplier deliveries). Any new packaging we order in will always be recyclable or compostable.
Please take a read below to understand what materials we use to package your lovely products.
LET'S TALK TAPE!
1. PAPER TAPE
Our paper tape is what we use the most on packages.
It is 100% recyclable and is a great alternative to
plastic packing tape.
2. CELLULOSE TAPE
Celloluse tape is an eco-friendly natural tape for sealing items.
Unlike normal sellotape (which is now made with plastic), it is made from wood pulp and has a golden hue. There may be some sticky residue left on the edges of this tape when used but this is normal and is just where a buildup of the adhesive has collected in our dispenser.
It is 100% biodegradable!
OUR PACKAGING!
We use a mix of new and used packaging to package your orders!
(all new packaging will be compostable or recyclable)
1. RE-USED PACKAGING (AMAZON/BRANDED BOXES ETC.)
Please don’t be alarmed if your items arrived in amazon or other branded packaging! We try our best to reuse packaging where possible and what a great way of giving single use packaging another lease of life! (If your order arrives with bubble wrap or packing paper this has also been re-used in the same way).
2. KRAFT PADDED MAILERS & CARDBOARD ENVELOPES
Normal plastic Jiffy bags sadly cannot be recycled, so we have introduced Kraft paper mailing bags.These bags have a honeycomb style paper lining which adds a layer of cushioning to items while being 100% recyclable and biodegradable!
We also use hardback A4 size envelopes which are recyclable.
3. COMPOSTABLE MAILING BAGS
We commonly use compostable mailing bags for saddlepads and clothing orders. They are designed to degrade within home compost, so are the perfect eco-friendly solution to normal plastic mailers.
4. RE-USED PLASTIC PACKAGING
Occasionally some of our items or materials come with stretchy clear plastic (such as saddle pads, riding gloves and paracord.
We also re-use sealable clear plastic bags with paracord products).
These bags can be recycled with carrier bags
at supermarkets or used again.
If you want zero waste packaging, please add a note at the checkout. Occaisionally I am unable to send products 100% zero waste but I will try my best.
Otherwise your order will be packaged via one of the eco friendly options above!
*Very rarely I have to use bubblewrap / packing tape with certain fragile products being shipped outside of the UK to make sure they arrive in one piece!
I do try to avoid this where possible.
